Paul's Web Space 2.1

Politics, Culture, Technology

Stories about cool events I've attended, musings about social media and other technology, and commentary about people, issues, ideas, whatever. Now, in 2008, I've added labels, shuffled things around a bit and fixed some style and UI quirks - hence 2.1. Watch for more widgets and microformats....

Rolling Stone on eVoting Problems

Rolling Stone: Will The Next Election Be Hacked?
Fresh disasters at the polls — and new evidence from an industry insider — prove that electronic voting machines can't be trusted
In this article, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. reveals information from a Diebold whistle blower, and also discusses studies by Avi Rubin and Ed Felton demonstrating how easy it would be for an insider to hack into machines and alter enough votes to change the outcome of an election.

I'm involved in CPSR and USACM efforts to either eliminate electronic voting machines or to require a voter verifiable paper ballot be included in any such system.  Other groups working on this issue include VerifiedVoting.org, MoveOn.org, and Common Cause.
